GridTune is a software application designed to apply micro patterns to the 1-bit files used to create flexographic printing plates. This technology is particularly effective in larger solid areas, where a pattern of holes is introduced to create a rougher surface on flat tints and dark tones. Using a specific set of patterns in a particular size creates the necessary escape cavities and optimizes the ink transfer and laydown for solids.
By enhancing the surface texture of the dots, GridTune ensures a more consistent and efficient ink transfer, thereby reducing cleaning stops and eliminating common print defects.
Benefits
Consistent ink transfer
This enhances color accuracy and print uniformity, minimizing defects and downtime.
Increase ink densities
This allows the use of less voluminous anilox rolls and delivers high opacity with white ink. Even with higher densities, solids still remain smooth.
Reduces the risk of mottling
An uneven distribution of ink can make prints look splotchy or clouded, lacking a crisp, uniform appearance. GridTune creates a roughened surface on the plate that reduces the risk of mottling.
Eliminates TEV artefacts
During ink transfer, a vacuum near the trailing edge of printed surfaces can create visual artefacts, with the printed image appearing lighter or void of ink. Since GridTune improves ink transfer, it can prevent such trailing edge void (TEV) artefacts.
Reduces the need for cleaning stops
Better ink transfer leads to fewer cleaning stops. This not only improves efficiency and productivity, it also reduces waste.
Integrated in ECO3's workflow solutions
GridTune is an integral part of the ECO3 Amfortis workflow for packaging and label printing. It can also be used in PlateAssembler, our software for combining multiple jobs or separations on a single flexo plate.
