Leaderpack Packaging Industry, headquartered in Verona, Italy, specializes in the development and production of packaging solutions and point-of-sale (POS) materials.
The company operates two distinct production facilities, utilizing 8,000 square meters of production space and 5,000 square meters of warehousing. Their portfolio includes primary and secondary packaging that complies with strict food safety standards, including BRCGS certifications. A key aspect of Leaderpack's service is the ability to combine high-volume production with customization. Federico Cozza, CEO of Leaderpack, explains the company’s unique value proposition:
“Leaderpack is a multi-specialized paper converting company. We can personalize offset printing, which not all competitors can do, because one-to-one personalization also involves digital printing. This adds value to the customer’s products and makes the brand stand out."
The challenge of centralization
Managing operations across multiple production sites poses specific challenges related to centralization and standardization. For Leaderpack, the primary objective was ensuring that their two factories could operate with a unified mindset and consistent output standards. Furthermore, the company handles a significant volume of reprints. In a non-standardized environment, this often necessitates manual interventions, increasing the risk of human error and slowing turnaround times. The goal was to implement a solution that could minimize manual touchpoints and ensure data consistency across all workflows.
To address these operational requirements, Leaderpack adopted ECO3’s Amfortis software. As a unified workflow, Amfortis allows the Verona headquarters to monitor activity across both facilities effectively. The introduction of the Amfortis Editor has streamlined the prepress department by allowing operators to manage tasks within a single artwork file. Critical edits, such as trapping and bleed adjustments or changing registration marks, are executed quickly. Their Amfortis workflow also renders jobs efficiently, supporting both traditional screening and ECO3’s stochastic CristalRaster.
Gianluca Peretti, Prepress Manager, notes:
“Since Amfortis became part of our workflow, we have really streamlined our prepress activities. We estimate a 35% reduction in job setup time. Furthermore, we have significantly reduced the risk of errors.”
The value of integrated support
Leaderpack’s production capabilities rely on a synergy between software and hardware. In addition to Amfortis, the company utilizes ECO3’s Avalon CTP system and Azura TU plates. Sourcing the entire prepress ecosystem from a single partner ensures that quality remains consistent from file entry to plate imaging. This integrated approach also simplifies service and support; access to fast technical assistance, both on-site and remotely, is essential for meeting the strict deadlines common in the packaging industry.
Operations Manager Stefano Buffatti says:
“Being able to rely on a single partner such as ECO3 for both our hardware and our software is extremely important to us in prepress. With the help of ECO3, we manage both the CTP and prepress workflow, and get consistent quality throughout the entire production process.”
Future-proofing production
The collaboration with ECO3 allows Leaderpack to automate complex processes and streamline communication between its facilities. By significantly reducing setup times and error risks, the company can deliver faster results while maintaining higher quality standards.
Leaderpack continues to look ahead, with plans to implement WebApproval for online customer sign-offs. It is currently testing ECO3’s SolidTune and SPIR@L screening technologies to further differentiate its services.
